First Methodist Church has a variety of Ministries that offer an array of opportunities for spiritual growth.
Additional information about the Adult Ministries of First Methodist Church, can be obtained by calling the church office at (903)657-6588.
These ministries offer opportunities to serve at one or both of our morning worship services. From greeting at the door to serving communion to ushering and everything in between, there is an area that needs YOUR touch.
Youth and adults are encouraged to share their gifts and talents through the vocal and instrumental ensembles in our Fine Arts Ministries. We have the Common Ground Praise Band (Contemporary Service), Chancel Choir (Traditional Service), and Handbells to choose from.
Our Growing Ministries involve three areas: Childrens, Youth and Adults. If you enjoy working with kids, consider teaching a Sunday School class, helping with worship, being a part of Wednesday Night Kidz Club or Vacation Bible School, or being a part of our Easter and Christmas festivities.
Our FMC Youth are always in need of leaders, shepherds, helpers and friends. If you're interested in shaping the lives of young adults, they meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.
We offer a variety of adult growing ministries. There is a Sunday School class for every age and interest. Visit them all and choose the one that fits your needs.
The church receives prayer requests daily. Each week the new prayer list is available on Thursdays. If you feel you can offer a prayer, silent or vocal, please pick up a list on the table outside the office.
The Caring Ministries at FMC are here to help and comfort the families of our congregation as they weather the storms of life. Groups you can consider joining include hospital visitation, adopt a shut-in, transportation, traffic cones, grief recovery, meals for bereaving families, hospitality for parents of newborns, altar flowers for shut-ins and cards to members. As you can see, there are plenty of areas to choose from.
Being a part of one of our Hospitality Ministries affords volunteers the chance to get to know both members and guests. You can sign up to be a worship greeter, a special event greeter or to give our guests a gift and invitation to return.
Like to plan events, cook for a crowd or organize fellowship opportunities? Then, Church Family Ministries is the place for you. This group puts together church-wide gatherings and Sunday morning brunches. Coordinators, cooks and participants are always welcomed.
The church staff works hard to meet the administrative needs of FMC. However, it couldn't all get done without volunteers. If you're interested in helping as an Office Angel, we want you. Duties include answering phones, preparing mailouts, filing and making phone calls.
We communicate with our community in many ways, but two special areas are our church sign and our church bell. Changing the weekly message and ringing the bell at the beginning of worship take only a few minutes, but are very important to our mission.
Whether you prefer working indoors or outside, our Facilities Team could use a hand. They work to maintain our building and church grounds.
Our Reaching Ministries are focused on local missions.
We believe that following Jesus means that we are living our lives as individuals and as a community to share Jesus' presence with the world.
We do that through the gifts, talents, and energies that God shares with us, and by devoting ourselves to living as missionaries. After all, this church began as a movement called the Shawnee Mission way back in 1842. When we think back on it, our best days have always been when we were in mission to the world around us.
FMC Henderson serves the community in several different missions. Call the church office to find out more and how you can help.
